Prehistoric

My illustration for this weeks Illustration Friday, supporting the theme 'Prehistoric'.

I'm a huge fan of the prehistoric landscape so I chose to stick with that, whilst shying away from the usual dinosaurs/prehistoric animal type drawings. I used ammonites and shells as decoration to make it into a spot illustration and ferns for composition and they also add some interesting shapes.

Tarot Card Illustrations ~ 'The Hermit' and 'The Hanged Man'

My latest project has been working with Tarot cards, as the images on them tend to follow a tradition. I initially thought playing cards but decided on Tarot cards as they are a bit more mysterious. More to come soon, hopefully.

Dots and Pens

• Here are various illustrations I have created using dots, reverting back to traditional techniques and experimenting with simple pen work.

Illustration inspired by the song 'Mountains' by Biffy Clyro. A spot illustration that is versatile, it can be used as book illustration through to a tattoo design.

An oval illustration inspired by the song 'Surrender' by the band Billy Talent. Working more with the human figure as it is something I often feel uncomfortable drawing. Again, in a traditional style and embedded with dots.

Having a bit of fun playing around with phrases and typography.

• Inspired by Surrealism, a sort of nonsense illustration that I came up with one day and incorporated the dots and little ideas to keep my mind and drawing flowing.

Logo Commission

A logo commission from a small journalism site called 'AltLinc', short for Alternative Lincoln (Twitter: https://twitter.com/AltLinc) which informs the Lincoln population of alternative events that you wouldn't otherwise hear about, advertising the weird and wonderful.

To create this logo I used Photoshop to experiment with block colour, and to gain a little more experience in the field and also with typography, an area I hope to progress in.

Portrait Commission

A customer from where I work (Staples) asked me if I could replicate an old photograph of an ancestor of his. This is the final result, which he seemed very pleased with. I used Derwent graphite pencils to complete the sketch. I don't usually draw portraits so I expected it to be more challenging than it was. I think the amount I've been drawing lately has been paying off!

New Work

So sorry for not updating for so long! I've been working on a few things lately. Here are some drawings from recent doodles/competitions/progression:

Firstly, for a competition from one of my favourite musicians, Hayley Williams. Her new single with Zedd called 'Stay The Night' helped inspire this piece for a competition.

Secondly, a piece inspired by the band Bad Religion, their song '21st Century', which is about people caught up in today's world and are too involved in gadgets rather than things that really matter. People who have been dumbed down by media etc.

Finally, just an experimental piece in the style of a tattoo design.

My prints are taken mostly from original graphite pencil drawings and occasionally watercolour paintings. The latest of which is entitled 'Number 24' which I submitted for a recent project.
